Vigor Cycling

Cycling LogoThe Vigor Studio is the meeting point for group rides aimed at beginners to intermediate cyclists. You can be a recreational cyclist or have specific goals such as competing in road cycling, mountain biking, triathlon and duathlon.

Vigor has a number of Cycling Coaches - you can check them out here. There are generally two or three coaches at each group ride meaning we can split into different paced groups. The group rides have been going continuously since the start of 2006 which has seen hundreds of cyclists enjoy the benefits of professionally coached group training rides.

You can join the Vigor Cycling Group by becoming a Vigor memberfor $99 a year. This gives you access to a year of coached cycling sessions and support for your goal events. It also gives you discounts at the Vigor Clinic so you'll get your $99 back in no time.

The Cycling Sessions

Tuesday

6:30am: Spin - BYO bike and set it up on the Kurt Kinetic Rock 'n' Rollers. Brad will take you through a session of focused efforts to improve your performance on the bike. This is a great way to build up your fitness.

Wednesday

6:30am: Cycle - Meet at the Vigor studio to ride 2 laps (approx. 30km) of the Yarra Boulevard (Kew). If you need to ride on to work you can leave your bag at the Vigor Studio. The session starts with an easy lap, spinning to ride as a group, the second lap is generally stronger depending on what you're up to; if you're feeling frisky you can do efforts up the hills. During winter and if it's wet, we ride indoors.

Saturday

7:30am: Cycle - Meet at the Vigor Studio for a 2-5 hour cycle. Generally those that turn up plan the ride ahead which usually means a short and long option. We head north to Eltham and Kinglake regions and there's usually a coffee or brunch when we get back. See the links above for maps of each of the rides.

Information regarding the Saturday ride is always included in the Vigor Cycling weekly email, if you'd like to receive this email please click HERE.

When it's raining or Wednesday winter rides

The sessions are always on - same time and place, we just go indoors on the Kurt Kinetic Rock n' Rollers. We put on a DVD and pedal in comfort for an hour or so. This is a great way to keep your regular fitness up over winter and work as hard as you like.

The Kurt Kinetic Rock n' Rollers give a safe and more realistic ride than any other indoor trainers. They do not damage the bike's frame or tyres. It is best to just show up at the start time and the decision of whether to ride in or outdoors will be made then.

Cost

All outdoor cycle sessions are covered with your $99 yearly Vigor membership. Indoor Spin sessions are $10 first time and then you can use a Vigor Group Exercise Pass (checkout the Vigor Group Exercisepage for pricing of the VGEP) or pay $15 casual.
