The Naturopath Appointment

Naturopathy is a natural medicine practice incorporating a holistic approach to wellness, which looks at your whole body and mind to create an individual plan for you. Naturopaths can provide symptomatic relief as needed, but will look further to assess contributing disease factors to prevent the return of disease, as well as aspects that may lead to future health concerns. Naturopaths are practiced at taking a thorough case, allowing consideration of the whole person with a unique set of contributing factors that may contribute to illness. Naturopathy can alleviate a wide range of health conditions, both acute and chronic, and is suitable for all ages. Some of the more common conditions treated include fatigue, stress related ailments, digestive problems, women’s health, weight loss and general aches and pains. However, you do not need to be unwell to benefit from naturopathy, as the focus is not just on healing the body but also on the prevention of illness, for example controlling cholesterol, optimising fitness and sports performance, managing menopause or learning to how live well in a stressful environment. Naturopaths can also assist in creating a health plan for your future with an analysis of your current health, family medical history and identifying risk factors to direct a predictive and preventative management plan. The aim of a naturopath is to restore health by optimising and utilising the body’s natural ability to heal itself. This process is supported by natural medicines such as herbal medicine, nutritional advice or supplementation, lifestyle advice, iridology and more. Naturopaths view their practice as complementary to orthodox medicine rather than as an alternative to it, positioning naturopaths as an important part of the wider health care system. Vigor’s naturopaths are university degree qualified, both having a four year health science degree in naturopathy. This encompasses studies in biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, pathology, nutrition, herbal medicine, iridology, pharmacology, counselling, disease diagnosis and naturopathic clinical medicine. Appointments
An initial naturopathic consultation involves a complete assessment of the client's health, looking in detail at the presenting complaint, as well as assessing all body systems. The naturopath gathers and assesses this information to ensure all concerns and/or illnesses are identified as well as contributing factors which may play a role. The client is then guided on ways they can improve their health, through appropriate remedy selection and lifestyle advice. A return consultation involves a review of the last treatment and may also include analysis of results from diagnostic testing, or addressing a new concern. The naturopath is then able to draw on the client's history to ensure accurate assessment of the new complaint and prescribe appropriate treatment to suit the client's needs. Initial appointments last an hour and subsequent appointments can range from 30 minutes to an hour.
